Description
Description: Main theme (romantic setting); similar to "In Love" until the ending, where an expressive sequence occurs
On-screen: Joe and Mabel talk
Music annotations: [m. 70] a little faster / cresc; [m. 77] rall / arpeggio; [m. 78] slower / molto expressivo / mp; [m. 82] melody [arrow pointing to bass clef]; [m. 84] melody [arrow pointing to bass clef]; [m. 85] pp; [m. 86] slow / p; [m. 88] pp / (quasi “organ imitation”) / (read cue sheet); [m. 92] a tempo; [m. 93] rall / arpeggio; [m. 95] molto rit / arpeggio / arpeggio
Film annotations: [m. 63] From now on, Mabel; [m. 69] I’ll write a book; [m. 78] And boy, will we have a place; [m. 81] He stops talking; [m. 88] All these years I’ve prayed; [m. 91] Now, that its happened
Orchestration annotations: [m. 70] div / vibra; [m. 74] vibra; [m. 77] 8 viol; [m. 78] div viol / vibra / 2 celli - 4 violas (soli) / 2 celli; [m. 82] harp and clar?? / pizz; [m. 83] harp; [m. 86] vibra; [m. 88] div / harp / vibraph; [m. 90] harp; [m. 94] vibra / harp
Analysis: Almost the same as "In Love" until the B' section, where motive Z is fragmented and sequenced, tonicizing the key areas of vi and VII# (a minor and B major) before returning clearly to C major; this motion to more distant keys corresponds with Mabel's outpouring of emotion and crying from joy; the resolution overlaps with the beginning of the next section, so the Fate Motto is not clearly resolved at the end
